One of the 95 dark nebulae catalogued by the astronomer Aage Sandqvist in 1977, the serpentine tendrils of Sandqvist 114 crawl across a starfield reddened by interstellar dust and diffused with background emission nebulosity.
Clutching some nebulous jewels, it includes the reflection nebula vdBH29 and the intensely red Herbig Haro HH 75, which can be seen near the centre. Below and to the left of vdBH29 is a smaller chain of Herbig Haro objects collectively catalogued as HH 133. This region represents the centre of the Vela R2 association, which is about 2800 light years away and is also part of the Vela C molecular cloud. HH 75 was discovered in 1988 and HH 133 was discovered in 1990.
I assume this is the first amateur image of this enigmatic object.
